    Just a quick debate.

You can't use their graphics unless you publish it using RPG maker. That said, no one here minds.
  3. > It sucks. yup. Mixing anime with photos doesn't work. Not sure what you were going for.

    > Why would you want UDP? UDP is more for p2p type of networking. TCP is more trustworthy, and managing packets would become a much bigger mess in my opinion. > > I think anyone who wants to improve the core engine and not add more features would be a good replacement, but good luck to whoever wants to take Jscinder's place. If UDP worked, then it would be faster, wouldn't it? Granted it requires more code and is probably more complicated.
  5. Jungle, I use to have a similar mindset to you: If you don't bring something new and radical to the table with your game, don't make it at all. However, after a few months of coming up with crazy ideas, I realized a few things. First and foremost, making games is fun and a great learning experience. Even if it's essentially a clone of another game, you still learn a lot and it's very rewarding. Then there's the slight changes you make to the game, even if it's very similar to another game it is still different in a few ways, and often these ways are significant enough to be worth it. Also, sorry if I'm going out of line, but it seems like your tone is a bit caustic. That said, Antho3000, your game is kind of lackluster and seems cluttered with silly ideas. Sure, vehicles and mounts may seem like a good idea on the surface, but often they will seem like they were just tacked onto the game. Make sure you make them useful but not overpowered. The same goes for Harvesting. A good example of a poorly done harvest/craft system is skyrim: you click to get minerals, you click to make items. There is no skill, no thought… just a cold calculation to see what will get you the most money the fastest. There isn't really any luck in it, either(though often luck can be annoying). Fable II had a slightly better system that incorporated a mini game to jobs. Even better than that is minecraft, where you have a fun and engaging crafting system. Haven and Hearth gets buy with such a simple crafting system because crafting is such a huge part, everyone has to do it. In skyrim, crafting just seems like an after thought. **tl;dr**: if you add a feature, do it right.

  7. > The trees look too flat and side-scroller-ey. You need to give them top-down perspective. I'll think about it, but most of the old games, and even some new ones, that had fir trees had them like that. 8. We're still potentially looking for a concept artist, however we do not need more pixel artists or graphic designers.

  11. Why do you guys keep asking dumb questions? Can't you stay on topic? > Could it be a rhetorical question? Huh, why didn't I think of that?
  12. > And yet they don't. Well I could do it but it would still involve some networking - not a whole lot but some and it kind of defeats the purpose of the single player engine. Do you think they will try and make their game unique if there's a single player engine? I think it'd just end up with a shit ton of games saying that they are unique because they have mining, or because they have a cool storyline, or because they have different graphics.
  13. I don't think it's really necessary, but obviously we'll all say that it'd be nice. Make one if you want to, but I feel that Eclipse will always be MMO oriented, and a Single player engine may just dilute the community.
  14. > I was half joking. I really like LUA for those reasons but it isn't as powerful as I'd like it to be. Hell, it doesn't even have a switch statement or structures. I hear Lua is a decent scripting language. I think it's an alright first language. I don't actually have first hand experience with it, but I imagine it's very similar to python.
  15. Discussions like this are liez. Stephan(RIP) would come around and say that C is really the best, but it's much much harder to learn than say lua, which sekaru suggested. Here is the comprehensive debate thread: [http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/index.php?/topic/51792-the-comprehensive-programming-and-coding-debate-thread/](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/index.php?/topic/51792-the-comprehensive-programming-and-coding-debate-thread/) I don't think we should really debate about languages, since it always goes to hell. If you want something quick to learn and coming with little baggage, I'd suggest Python. If you want something a little more game oriented, go with lua. If you want to learn a 'real' programming language, C# and Java are great for beginners. If you want to learn a industry level language, learn C or C++. There are hundreds of other programming languages, each with its own pros and cons. No language is simply 'better' than another, it always depends on the programmer and the purpose. > I heard LUA is one of the worst. There is no worst. Lua is a lot weaker than others, but it has its purposes and honestly would be a great choice for a new programmer with little free time and a desire to make games.
  16. My first char was a mage-warrior hybrid, then a rogue-archer, then I made a pure rogue with a knife… after that I think I tried a few different warrior builds, but my favorite so far has been a pure mage I've been playing lately(though I rarely play skyrim).
  17. > Ive already seen this:) > > What i most like is the grapics (they are better than mc) and the gameplay: its way more action than in mc. ![:D](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons//biggrin.png) Why did you compare it to minecraft? It really seems nothing alike. Seems like this would be more fairly compared to diablo.
  18. If he did, why would he ask?
  19. > I have decided on _**Homestead**_. It gives a nice "Oregon Trail" feel and reminds me why I wanted a game like mine in the first place. > > The full name will be _**Homestead: Settle and Survive**_ to avoid legal conflicts with the company. Great choice. Also, if you didn't know, dominion has nothing to do with dominating. It's a synonym for land. I believe Canada was once called "the dominion of canada".

    College

    > Or more to Quebec. It costs me about 165$ per semester. Thats about 155$ USD Looks like I'll be freezing in college. It'll be worth it though, when I can afford a massive apartment and still pay less for college.
  21. > TRIBELANDS!!! > > Tribal lands sounds like something a 5th grader put in a 1 paragraph essay about his mother. > > But TRIBELANDS on the other hand…. that got some serious > > PIZZAZ! >Comic sans On a scale from 1-10, 1 being fun and lighthearted and 10 being dark and serious, where does your game lie? If it's closer to the 10 end, I might suggest something more like 'dominion of the tribes'. If it's closer to 1, tribal lands. Two words, sounds edgier than tribelands. I guess tribelands is more modern and cute, but tribal lands just sounds dope as duck.
  22. > Im not interested in joining, but your logo would look better with the cracks connected. *looks crack up on google then finds the wrong thing* > > i.e. [http://www.inspectap…rack222DJFs.jpg](http://www.inspectapedia.com/structure/ConcreteFrostCrack222DJFs.jpg) like that. Our logo is shit because we don't have designers. That said, we did get a better logo in the works.

    Tileset revamp

I think the main problem with the wall is that the battlements have straight, unbroken lines in them. Try adding more short gaps in those lines and antialias them more.
